Frequently Asked Questions

The stuff you probably want to know before getting a website built — including payment, ownership, hosting, domains, security, SEO and what happens after your website goes live.

Straight Answers. No Corporate Jargon.

The main website explains the basics. This page goes a little deeper into how the website, accounts, hosting, domains and handover actually work.

Pricing & Payment

What does the $399 website package include?

The $399 Budget Website Pack is designed for a straightforward business website and generally includes 3 to 5 custom pages, custom design, multiple drafts, mobile-responsive design, image optimisation, call-to-action buttons and technical search optimisation foundations.

If you need something substantially larger — such as additional pages, booking systems, ecommerce, memberships or other advanced functionality — we can discuss and quote that separately.

When do I pay for the website?

You don't pay the website fee just to see what we're building.

We build the custom draft, you provide feedback, and once the final website is completed and you're happy with it, you pay the agreed website fee.

How do I pay?

Website payments are by bank transfer only.

We don't need to store your card details for the website payment.

For the initial domain registration, we may pay the domain provider ourselves to get everything up and running. The domain is then set up in your name.

Do I get to see the website before I pay?

Yes.

The custom draft process is designed so you can see what is being built, provide feedback and approve the final version before paying the agreed website fee.

Ownership & Handover

Who owns my website?

Once the agreed website has been completed and paid for, the completed website belongs to you.

Relevant online accounts are created in your name where required, so the website isn't permanently dependent on Bloody Cheap Websites owning those accounts.

Are the website and hosting accounts created in my name?

Yes.

Where an account is required for your website, it is intended to be created in your name.

Once the website is completed, the relevant account access is handed over to you.

You can then reset the password so you have your own private login details.

Can someone else work on my website after handover?

Yes.

You are not permanently locked into using Bloody Cheap Websites.

Once the website and relevant accounts have been handed over to you, you can manage the website yourself or have another website professional work on it.

Can I make changes to my website myself?

You have access to the relevant accounts handed over to you, but these websites are intentionally built as simple static websites rather than complicated website-management systems.

If you directly change or replace website files, you can potentially affect how the website works.

If you're unsure about a technical change, it's better to ask first.

Hosting & Domain

Do I have to pay monthly for website hosting?

Generally, no.

These websites are deliberately lightweight and are usually made up of static website files. That means they can generally be hosted using a free hosting plan suitable for this type of website.

A small static business website is very different from a large web application with databases, complicated backend systems and heavy server requirements.

Free hosting is not presented as a permanent guarantee. Hosting providers can change their plans, limits, pricing and terms over time.
What ongoing costs will I have?

The main ongoing cost is normally your domain name renewal.

Bloody Cheap Websites does not charge a monthly website subscription.

Hosting may also remain free where the website continues to be suitable for a free static hosting plan.

What happens with my domain name?

Your domain is set up in your name.

We cover the initial domain registration as part of getting the website up and running.

After the first year, you are responsible for keeping the domain renewed.

Domain prices are set by the domain provider and can change over time.

How much does my domain cost after the first year?

This depends on the domain provider and the domain extension you choose.

For example, a standard Australian .com.au domain may cost around a few tens of dollars per year to renew, depending on the provider.

Domain prices can change, so the actual renewal price will be whatever your domain provider charges at the time.

What happens if I forget to renew my domain?

Your domain needs to remain renewed for your website address to continue working normally.

If a domain expires, the website can become unavailable through that address.

After handover, keeping the domain renewed is your responsibility, so it's worth keeping your renewal reminders and account details up to date.

If Something Goes Wrong

Do I need to contact you for normal website maintenance?

No.

These websites are designed to be simple and low-maintenance.

Once the website has been properly built, tested and handed over, normal day-to-day operation should not require you to regularly contact Bloody Cheap Websites.

In practical terms, you mainly need to leave the website setup alone and keep your domain renewed.

What happens if something goes wrong with my website?

With a small static website that has been properly built and tested, problems with the website files themselves should be uncommon.

If something does happen, the issue can generally be identified as relating to the domain, hosting platform or website files.

Domain and hosting providers operate the infrastructure behind those services and have their own technical teams dealing with platform-level problems.

If the website files themselves ever need to be restored, the saved website files can be redeployed to the hosting account.

What if someone hacks or defaces my website?

No website connected to the internet can honestly be described as completely immune to security problems.

However, these websites are deliberately lightweight. They generally don't contain sensitive customer databases, payment systems or complicated applications.

If somebody did manage to damage or deface the website files, the saved website files can generally be redeployed to the hosting account to restore the website.

Do you keep a backup of my website?

The website files used to create the completed website are retained so the website can be redeployed if the live files ever need to be restored.

For a lightweight static website, this provides a straightforward recovery option if the live files are ever damaged or need to be replaced.

Is my website completely secure?

No website connected to the internet can honestly be guaranteed to be completely secure.

The advantage of this type of website is that it is deliberately simple, with fewer moving parts than a large web application.

That can reduce the number of things that can potentially go wrong, but it does not make the website immune to security issues.

Search & SEO

Will my website appear on Google?

The website is built with search visibility in mind.

That includes relevant page structure, titles, headings, metadata, technical foundations, mobile responsiveness, performance considerations and structured information where appropriate.

However, nobody can honestly guarantee a particular Google ranking or position.

Can you guarantee that my website will rank first on Google?

No.

No legitimate website designer can guarantee a particular Google ranking.

Search results depend on many factors outside the website build itself.

What we can do is build the website with sound technical and content foundations for search visibility.

Can you guarantee that AI search engines will recommend my business?

No.

AI-powered search systems decide which businesses and websites they recommend, and their systems can change.

The website can be structured clearly so that search engines and AI systems have useful information about your business, services, locations and customers.

But no specific AI recommendation or result can honestly be guaranteed.

What can you do to help establish my business online outside the website?

Your website is only one part of your overall online presence.

Where appropriate, we can help identify useful places where your business can have a genuine online presence — such as your Google Business Profile, relevant Australian business directories, industry associations, reputable business listings, social profiles, media coverage and other legitimate websites that identify your business.

Having consistent information about your business across legitimate external sources can help search engines and AI systems better understand that your business exists and connect your business name, website, services and location.

This is sometimes referred to as building your wider online entity or SameAs profile. The idea is simply to make it easier for search engines to recognise the same business across different legitimate online sources.

We can help identify suitable opportunities and explain what is worth doing. We do not create fake profiles, artificial reviews or misleading listings, and no external website can be guaranteed to link to or recommend your business.

Your Website & Project

Will my website work on phones and tablets?

Yes.

Mobile-responsive design is part of the website build. The website is designed and tested to work across common smartphone, tablet and desktop screen sizes.

What happens if I want a bigger website later?

The $399 package is designed for a straightforward business website.

If you later need additional pages, booking systems, ecommerce, memberships, databases or other advanced functionality, those requirements can be assessed and quoted separately.

How quickly can my website go live?

Once the final draft has been approved and the required information and assets are available, a straightforward website can potentially be made fully live within 24 hours.

The actual timing depends on the project and anything still required from the customer.

Do I need to provide anything for the website?

You'll need to provide the information, business details, photographs, contact details and other material needed to accurately represent your business.

Your Google Business Profile, social media presence and genuine customer reviews are also important parts of your wider online presence.

What if I don't understand the technical parts?

That's completely fine.

The website is built and tested before handover, and you don't need to become a web developer to use it.

This FAQ explains some of the technical details because they're useful to understand. If something doesn't make sense, you can simply ask.

Why are these websites so much cheaper than many other websites?

The $399 price is possible because the package is deliberately focused on what a small business or tradie commonly needs.

The goal is a clean, professional website that explains the business and helps customers make contact — without large agency overheads, ongoing website subscription fees and unnecessary features that many small businesses simply don't need.

What happens after my website goes live?

After the final website is approved and paid for, the relevant website and account access is handed over to you.

You keep your website, your domain remains in your name, and you can reset the relevant account passwords so you have your own private login details.

You are responsible for keeping the domain renewed, while the website itself is designed to operate as a simple, low-maintenance online presence for your business.
